Roots of Muay Thai in Thailand

Roots of Muay Thai in Thailand

Muay Thai

Muay Thai was previously known as Southeast Asian kickboxing style.

However, people of Thailand claimed that kickboxing or the art of eight limbs was originated in Thailand and hence, they started calling this particular mixed martial art as Thai kickboxing or Muay Thai and the government of Thailand declared that Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand. However, other Southeast Asian countries don’t agree with the claim of Thai people and they still call this martial art as Southeast Asian kickboxing style.

There are significant evidences that Muay Thai or Thai kickboxing includes a number of martial arts techniques of Chinese and Indian martial arts.

Yet, it is believed that Muay Thai was developed in Thailand and it has been practiced by Thai people for more than thousand years. Historical document suggests that Siamese soldiers used Muay Thai techniques to defend themselves and to kill their opponents during wars of those times.

Later on, this art of fighting and wars was developed as an adventurous and interesting Muay Thai sport.
