Historical Background of MMA

Mixed martial arts or MMA is now attaining the popularity and interest of people in a wider manner; however, this special fighting sport has passed a long path to establish itself as a popular, healthy and entertaining discipline.

MMA

The most basic style of MMA was introduced in 1880s when the world heavyweight boxing champion fought against Greco-Roman wrestling champion to introduce the No Holds Barred Fighting (NHB Fighting). The wrestling champion won that match and since then, MMA techniques have been changed a lot. Gradually, more fighting skills including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Smabo, Muay Thai and other martial arts of Indian and Chinese origin were added in the MMA techniques during late 1800’s and early to mid 1900s.

Many popular figures, including Bruce Lee advocated the idea of MMA.

According to Dana White, Bruce Lee can be considered as the father of MMA.While the idea of mixed martial arts is very old, there was no organizational structure to provide a platform for MMA competitions. In 1990s, UFC tournaments were introduced in the USA that offered the required impetus for MMA to become a popular sport.

Travis S. Lutter is an American mixed martial artist who won the The Ultimate Fighter 4 reality show. His UFC record, not including his exhibition wins on The Ultimate Fighter 4, is 2–4. He is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Carlos Machado. http://travislutter.com

Mixed Martial Arts Gloves

In 1993, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) committee in the US made it compulsory for Mixed Martial Arts experts, trainers and competitors to use Mixed Martial Arts gloves and soon all Mixed Martial Arts enthusiasts started using proper gloves for learning, practicing and competing with their opponents.

Mixed Martial Arts Gloves

MMA

These gloves work to protect the fighters from causing injuries to their fingers, wrists and hands while punching and striking against their opponents and these gloves also help a Mixed Martial Arts fighter to defend himself against powerful blows of their opponent.

The Mixed Martial Arts gloves are specifically designed with open fingers and open palm to provide maximum freedom for combatants to use their hands properly without any restrictions.

In market, one can attain four types of Mixed Martial Arts gloves namely; bag, fight, sparring, and hybrid gloves.

Mixed Martial Arts Gloves
MMA

Sparring gloves are often used by trainees while practicing various techniques of Mixed Martial Arts. Bag gloves are usable for those who are practicing to strike and beat by striking pads. Bag gloves are heavily padded and they also include a wrist support and a grip bar to help the practitioner.

These gloves are meant for practicing while striking pads and they should not be used for sparring practices and for actual fighting competition. Fighting gloves are very less padded and they are lighter and one should not use them for sparring or for striking pads as they are meant for actual competitive fighting sequences.

An Mixed Martial Arts hybrid glove is one that can be used for all the three purposes.

However, expert Mixed Martial Arts specialists suggest that a trainee should opt for all three different sets of gloves to be used for different purposes.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or BJJ Home Exercise

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or BJJ is a martial art that is practiced in a martial art school and is most often practiced with many training partners.

A problem arises when a practitioner of the art is unable to make it to the school so as to train. How does a BJJ player stay in shape and keep the conditioning needed to excel in the sport.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or BJJ requires core strength and this is something that can definitely be exercised at home.

On of the difficult aspects of training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or BJJ at home alone is that it can be difficult to experience the type of exertion that one puts forth when sparring (BJJ practitioners call it rolling). Rolling can be draining both mentally and physically. Rolling requires a combination of speed strength, muscular endurance and static strength. This is a hard combination to train for outside of actually rolling against someone else.

BJJThere are styles of workouts that are intense enough to rival that of a grappling match. These workouts are circuit training and that of tabata protocol. Both are intense workouts. When the exercises performed are geared towards a specific sport such as wrestling, MMA or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or BJJ for examples the exercises can provide an excellent workout that provided benefits to those activities.

Developing a workout that will give a hard workout and provide benefits for a sport can be difficult to find unless one has been exposed to such workouts. The fastest way to learn about these workouts is to locate a training source.
